Selective Service Registration

 If you are a man age 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. According to law, a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday.

 Important Dates

Deadline for local entities to post Candidate Filing instructions:

Monday December 19th 2022

First Day to apply for Ballot by Mail (see application at bottom of page):

Sunday January 1st 2023

Apply for a place on the 2023 General Election Ballot (local subdivisions):

Wednesday January 18th - Friday February 17th 2023

Last day to ORDER THE ELECTION:

Friday February 17th 2023

Last Day to Register to Vote (to vote in the 2023 May election):

Thursday April 6th 2023

Early Voting Dates:

Monday April 24th - Tuesday May 2nd 2023

Last day to apply for a Ballot by Mail (to receive a B.B.M. for the 2023 May Election):

Tuesday April 25th 2023

Last day for the Elections office to receive a ballot by mail:

Saturday May 6th 2023 by 7p.m. or Monday May 8th 2023 at 5p.m. if envelope is post marked by May 6th 2023- unless overseas or a military ballot.

All changes to Grimes County have been the results of redistricting from the 2020 Census.

All changes to existing boundaries will be in effect

beginning January 1 2022.

Ballot By Mail Instructions & Qualifications 

  • Must be a registered voter of the county you are voting in
  • 65 years of Age or Older 
  • Disabled (as defined by Texas Election Code 82.002(a)
  • Expected to give birth within 3 weeks before or after Election Day 
  • Expected Absence from the county
  • Confined in Jail or Involuntary Civil Commitment

All original applications must be received by the deadline stated above for a current election.          (See top of page for specific dates, or call our office)

**Applications for Ballot By Mail MUST be renewed yearly**

Changes to Ballot by Mail & Carrier Envelopes: 

  • Effective 2022- all Ballot By Mail applications MUST contain either your Texas Drivers License or Texas Identification Number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. 
  • All applications missing this information will be rejected. 
  • When voting by mail your ballot envelope or "carrier" envelope MUST contain the same identifiable information, if missing, your ballot by mail could be rejected.
